Drawing: The Right Approach – beginner
Drawing: the Right Approach is largely based on exercises from the famous Betty Edwards book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. This class is geared for total beginners, but is also an excellent refresher. It provides a solid basis of knowledge for the pursuit of any creative endeavor. I enjoy teaching this class so much because I love to see people’s excitement with the steady progress they make in their drawing skills. It is recommended that you have a copy of the book “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards (any edition) for the class.
Tuesdays 12 – 2pm Jan 24th – Feb 28th; (8 classes) $134 includes supplies maximum 12 participants
***ANOTHER SESSION ADDED*** Tuesdays 3-5pm (same dates as above)
Student Comment: I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Drawing, The Right Approach, parts 1 and 2. By the end of part 2, I have the confidence to pursue more studies in art. What a fantastic way to get back into art again after 33 years! Anne, 2011
You can learn to draw – in only eight lessons by Paula Wild; Comox Valley Record; Dec 2010 (View PDF)
Drawing: The Right Approach – level 2
During this class you have an important chance to practice all that you learned in the first Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain (based on book by Betty Edwards). Within a similar format to the first class; we will tackle new subject matter, work on longer exercises as well as experiment with india ink. Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain (beg) is a prerequisite.
Mondays 7-9pm January 23 – March 12th; (8 classes) $134 includes supplies maximum 12 participants
Colour Basics – beginner
Colour Basics, a beginner painting course in acrylics is a prerequisite for “Acrylics: An 8 week Adventure (coming 2012)” with Tracy. In this class, painting your own colour wheel will give you an opportunity to learn some basics about colour; such as, colour mixing, colour terms and the relationships between colours. You will also paint small colour compositions and discover the interplay between hue, value and intensity. You will notice that colours that we think we are seeing may be different than what we are really seeing. This course (along with Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain) provides a strong foundation for creating art work in any media. Note: Upon student request, this class has been expanded to include a few more exercises and a more in-depth look at colour.

Student Comments
Tracy brought out the hidden artist in me and that is her talent as a teacher. Wink 2010
Tracy’s class gave me the confidence to progress beyond the first chapter of “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” and to actually put pencil to paper! Since taking the class, I find myself looking at shapes and recognizing their various tones or shades of grey. There has been a definite improvement in my drawing. Tracy’s enthusiasm for art was evident throughout the class and inspired us all. Duncan from Tofino; 2010
Really enjoyed the class & your way of presenting the artists. Learning about the artists & their methods makes me more appreciative of their work. Jen (about Painting with the Masters), 2010
Thanks for getting me started and confident in art. Without my lessons with you I would never would have had the guts to take art at Malaspina. Natalie 2008
